Agentic AI

AI that does not just produce an output you act on, but takes actions on its own: it sets a goal, plans steps, uses tools, and adapts, with a human reviewing at checkpoints rather than every step.

In the clinic

A revenue cycle team evaluates an agentic system that gathers notes and results from the record, completes prior authorization forms and submits them to payers, with staff reviewing a daily summary instead of each form. Its accuracy figure only checks that each finished form has every required field filled, and a form can pass that check with a note from the wrong encounter attached or an older scan's date quoted. Ask for full step-by-step logs from a sample of real cases, agree on the conditions that stop a run and hand it to a person, and name who reads the daily summary and can halt submissions.
