Deskilling

Explain it for

The gradual loss of a clinician's own skill when a tool does the task for them often enough that the underlying ability fades.

In the clinic

A gastroenterology unit has run real-time polyp detection on every colonoscopy for two years, and its assisted adenoma detection rates look strong. Nobody knows what each endoscopist's rate would be without the tool, which matters on days the system is down or a patient is scoped in a room without it. Keep a planned share of sessions unassisted, track each endoscopist's adenoma detection rate on those sessions, and agree in advance how large a fall from their own pre-AI baseline triggers retraining.
